LOCAL MEDIA: VITAL PARTNERSHIPS
Our local media is an important part of the cultural and social fabric of our communities. They disseminate information on the political impact of issues, quality of life, circulation of information, and cultural issues and knowledge that are important to a community.
In addition to covering relevant national and state news, the niche of The Argus Observer newspaper and KSRV 1380 AM radio is to concentrate on local, personal and community events. In the process these sources help our local citizens define what it means to be a member of this excellent community.
They restate that extended family, community service and superior achievement are characteristics of people who live in Malheur County. There are many other ways that our local media strengthen feelings of community. They provide a forum for discussion of policies and issues that affect the community. They can dispel rumors and help to defuse potentially explosive situations. They cover stories written by local writers, giving local talent an audience and enriching and stimulating community dialogue. Reports about public and private organizational meetings can facilitate broad public participation in local affairs.
They are a barometer of the health and strength of the communities they serve. The importance of the excellent working relationship the Eastern Oregon Economic Development team has with these sources cannot be over emphasized.
